Maria Ernestina De Hoyos Garcia, age seventy-nine went home to our heavenly father on March 18, 2016. Ernestina entered eternal rest surrounded by her loving family in her home in Floresville, Texas. Ernestina was born in San Buenaventura Coahuila, Mexico on November 15, 1936 to Jose Antonio De Hoyos and Maria Orona. She was raised in Monclova Coahuila, Mexico with her three sisters. Ernestina resided in her home in San Antonio, Texas up until the death of her husband. She moved to Floresville in 1989. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, friend, and professional seamstress. Ernestina enjoyed living and working on her family ranch in Gray Town, Floresville. She was a gardener at heart and an avid bird watcher. She was an elegant lady of her time who was partial to wearing hats and pearls. But this did not keep her from enjoying some time at Sacramento’s Ice House in Cañada Verde, Floresville. She was a high-spirited woman who enjoyed a cold `Güera` and listened to the Vitrola`/`Juke Box. Most importantly were the bonds she enjoyed there with local people and the laughter of those around her. Ernestina made the best menudo and tamales west of the Mississippi, according to those who were lucky enough to have savored these dishes. She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty four years, Juan Rivas Garcia; sons, Juan Jose and Jose Antonio Garcia; granddaughter, Penny Jo Ambriz. She is survived by her daughters: Isabel Garcia, Blanca Garcia Martinez widower of Jesse D. Martinez, Josephine Garcia Mendez and husband Fernando Mendez Jr., Annabel Garcia and husband Jesus Garcia; sons, Guadalupe Garcia and Juan Garcia Jr; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends. The greatest legacy she leaves her children is the many lessons she taught by example; having strong faith in God, love in our hearts, showing kindness to others, perseverance in the presence of obstacles and humility. Rest in peace our beloved mother, Maria Ernestina De Hoyos Garcia. The family will be receiving guests at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from 4:00 p.m.to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A procession will depart the funeral home on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 9:15 a.m. to celebrate a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 535 New Laredo Hwy. Interment will follow in Cañada Verde, Floresville.
