We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Maria de Jesus Viesca Ramirez, 78, of San Antonio Texas, on June 17, 2023, after a long struggle with heart disease. She passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by family at her side.
She was born June 8, 1945, to now deceased parents, Antonio and Juanita Viesca, in Pierdas Negras, Mexico, before immigrating to Texas. In July 1968, she married Ray H. Ramirez in San Antonio. Several years later giving birth to her self-proclaimed greatest accomplishments; daughter Maria Teresa and sons Ray Jr, Victor, and David. She actively participated in after-school activities, boosters, and became the unofficial cheerleader in whatever organization or activity we were a part of.
Maria was Mother to all, with an endless capacity to love. Valuing family above all else, fearlessly fighting for family and loved ones, she never compromised her Faith and core beliefs, attending Sunday Church regularly until her mobility no longer served her but still praying every morning.
Her many pets were among her passions, often caring for numerous dogs, cats, and birds at the same time. As an amateur Botanist, she took the same care with her plants, often collecting clippings, then watering and growing them until they were beautiful. She also loved the Spurs, Betty Boop memorabilia, and music by the late Selena. Holidays were often spent at home. Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas were a few of her favorites filling the house with laughter and love. “Tamale Day” was an endearing tradition, spending the day preparing and cooking tamales for Christmas. Maria was the Matriarch, the glue, that held the family together, never complaining. And now, time to rest as she joins her loved ones in Heaven.
Maria is preceded in death by parents, Antonio and Juanita Viesca, and brother Juan Viesca. She is survived by husband, Ray H. Ramirez, daughter Maria Teresa Ramirez (wife Carmen), and sons Dr. Ray Ramirez Jr (husband Chris Garcia), Victor and David; sisters Maria De Los Angeles Zuniga (husband Jose), Petra Pena (husband Daniel), Rosalinda Clark (husband John); and brothers Jose Viesca (wife Margie), Alberto Viesca, Victor Viesca (wife Belinda), and Manuel Viesca and numerous nieces and nephews.
