Maria Rebecca Busby

Maria Rebecca (Becky) Busby, 89, passed away on November 13, 2016. Becky was born on February 14, 1927 to Rosendo and Cecilia Rico. Becky served 30 years of faithful and devoted Federal Service with the United States Air Force in civilian employment, and worked as an Executive Administrative Secretary. After retirement, Becky joined the NARFE out of Boerne, TX, Chapter 778, serving as Secretary, and then President. True to the spirit of being a real sweetheart (since born on Valentine’s Day), Becky loved her family and friends, and always made everyone feel special. She loved all genres of music and enjoyed dancing, gardening, living in the country, and planning family reunions and talent shows.

Becky is preceded in death by her husband, Joel Noel Busby; son, Ernest Steve Cortinas; parents; sister, Maria Elena (Helen) Duran; brothers, Jesus (Jesse) Rodolfo Rico and Roberto Rico; and previous spouse, Steve Lopez Cortinas. She is survived by her children, Ralph (Ann) Cortinas, Ronald (Jeannie) Cortinas, Irma (Russell) Reed, and Steve (Aurora) Cortinas; sister, Maria Rosaura (Rose) Biglay; 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

The family will receive guests at 5:00 P.M. followed by a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX. A chapel service will be held November 23, 2016 at 9:00 A.M. at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home with interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Maria Rebecca Busby to the Alzheimer’s Association of San Antonio at 10223 McAllister Frwy, Ste 100, San Antonio, TX 78216.
