Margaret Lowery Ledwig Partin was called home to the Lord in the early hours of Monday, December 23, 2024. Born in Edna, Texas to parents Leslie and Lloyd Lowery on January 24, 1929, she led a long-storied life with a servant’s heart. Her guideposts were always her family and enduring faith as a devoted Catholic. At the age of 12, Margaret began her dutiful service to the church by cleaning St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna every Saturday to help prepare for the weekend services. After graduating from high school at 16 in 1945, she moved from Edna to San Antonio to attend Draughn’s Business College, where she trained to become an administrative assistant. At 18 while working to complete her studying at Draughn’s, Edna native and writer, I.T. Taylor requested that she return home to assist him with completing his historical anthology entitled The Cavalcade of Jackson County. Margaret was known for her incredible attention to detail and steadfast love of the written word. As a voracious reader, you would often find her reading her daily newspaper, countless books and magazines. She continued her service as a secretary throughout her career working for local businesses such as HOLT Machinery and the downtown law offices of Hope, Holman and Georges before retiring in 1993.
In 1946, she met her first husband John J. Ledwig at the Polish German dance held every Saturday night. They married and together, they had four children, one daughter and three sons. Her devotion to her children was seen through the countless hours she spent supporting each of them through PTC and various sports and extra-curricular activities as well as encouraging large family gatherings with extended family whenever possible. John and Margaret were married for over 40 years before he passed away from lung cancer in 1987. While dutifully serving St. Benedict’s Catholic church as a Eucharistic minister for the sick, Margaret met another widower, Gene Partin. They married in 1992 and Margaret added a stepson and two stepdaughters to her family. Together, they traveled the country visiting national parks, historical buildings and vast country sides enjoying time with friends and the family at each stop.
The unending love for her family never wavered as she proudly held the title of Oma for nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Many holidays and special occasions were spent together surrounded by her growing family in San Antonio. Oma was also well known for her enduring love of baking, gardening and cats. Oftentimes she could be found tending to her plants around her house or reading with a cat in her lap.
If not enjoying her home, Margaret was contributing as a faithful supporter and servant to her Catholic faith by serving as a member of the Catholic Daughters as well as participating in several ACTS retreats as a member of St. Benedict’s and St. Brigid’s Catholic churches. She was a very devout Catholic imparting and encouraging all around her to follow the Word of God in their words and actions.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Lloyd Lowery, sister Marie Gwosdz Joseph, her first husband John J. Ledwig and stepson David Partin. She is survived by her second husband, Gene Partin, daughter Margie Willingham and son in law Joe, son Robert Ledwig and daughter in law Janie, son Stephen Ledwig and son Timothy Ledwig and daughter in law Patti, stepdaughter Carol Dreyer and stepdaughter Elaine Partin, 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the residents and staff of Esplanade Gardens for their care and support of Margaret while she was a resident.
