Hello, my name is Manuel Saldana III, and Mr. Manuel Vasquez was my Padrino of Baptismal, along with my Madrina, Mary Lou.  From the time as a little boy, my parents, Manuel & Anna Laura Saldana, as very good friends of the Vasquez', would take myself and my brothers to their home on Mayfield to spend time with them....I remember the many Xmas Parties that the Vasquez's held for many, many years.....I remember the absolute kindness of my Padrino, the way he spoke to everyone, with understanding, empathy and compassion....I loved the HUGE pecan trees that every year would just drop so many pecans for us kiddos to collect and fill our pockets, I remember on my 13th birthday, my Padrino, along with his sisters sang songs to me in the morning to celebrate my birthday....Just the kindest people you could every know.....I feel privileged to have been a small part of my Padrino's life...he gave so much and his kindness resonates to me to this day, makes me learn from him and how to be towards others, in Gods grace. I met my co-worker, Padrino for our wedding , Padrino for our three sons and best friend for me and my wife 52 years ago during my first year as a teacher at Dwight Jr. High School of the South San Antonio I.S.D.  He was a very friendly and generous person from the very beginning, not only to me and my wife, but also to our three sons.  We were both teachers at Dwight Jr. High School and then at South San High School as counselor and myself as an administrator.  I relish numerous pleasant memories I had with him as co-workers at the schools and also at home activities, especially during the annual family Christmas holiday parties that included my whole family with the numerous relatives and friends of Mr. Manuel C. Vasquez.
           May he rest in peace  in the hands of our Lord and his angels forever.  My whole family and myself will miss him very much.   Let the Perpetual Light shine upon him.

He was always so willing to help and assist students! He was such a happy person. He will be missed!

Facebook friends, family and South San Antonio High School Alumni it is with a heavy heart that I announce the death of Mr. Manuel C. Vasquez, former Dwight middle school teacher, former South San High School Senior Counselor and my dear uncle who passed away at 11:23 p.m. Central Time in San Antonio on July 15 which ironically is my dad’s birthday.
This man dedicated his whole life to helping the students of South San High School in San Antonio, Texas graduate. No matter what the odds might be for a student, he always managed to work his magic advising students with the best course of action. 
Anyway, I wish to remember this man as being a great little brother to his siblings, Enrique Sr., Estella, Tila, Ramon, Oscar, Bertha, Elisa, Eddie and Lulu. Manuel was not only a great brother he was an outstanding uncle often helping his nephews and nieces with advice and of course throwing the best Christmas and Thanksgiving family gatherings!
I particularly remember my uncle Manuel as the man who taught me to drive and going out of his way to make me laugh along the way. He would often talk in squeaky voices and makeup fake conversations with imaginary friends with names he remembered from his high school days at South San. And this would always get me laughing. 
While attending South San in the 80’s my uncle would let me drive his blue 1970 Chevy pickup to and from school. I also remember getting in trouble at South San and often begging my uncle to speak to the principal and bail me out.
My uncle was not only my driving instructor he was my senior counselor at South San and I often dreaded filling out those long college and financial aid applications but hey at least my uncle had my back. However, most of all I remember the fun we had sharing some of his hobbies which included, photography, making home movies and tinkering with computers when they first came out. I remember he had a Commodore 64 too.
Please keep Manuel (Mr. Vasquez) in your prayers.

My deepest, and sincerest condolences to the family.  Mr. Vasquez was my counselor at  South San High School (Class of '78).  He encouraged us to go to college, and worked diligently to get us admitted into college, and obtain financial aid. Because of him I went on to St. Mary's University where I earned a BA in Education. I came back to South San and taught children in my community for 29 years. If not for his helpfulness and encouragement I would not have  done this. He was a positive force in our community.

My tia Mary Ann Saldana informed me of the passing of Mr Vasquez. He was such a very kind and professional counselor and good friend and neighbor to my extended family who lived a few houses down from the Vasquez home. Sending my condolences & heartfelt prayers to all of your family. 🙏🙏🙏

My sincere heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Vasquez. I remember him as a student then as a coworker.  He was very dedicated to his profession.  May he rest in eternal peace. 

I am a graduate of the  South San Class of '81. Mr. Vasquez encouraged me to go to Our  Lady of the Lake University, which I did. I wound up getting my  Bachelor of Science Degree. I went  onto teach for 30 years before retiring in 2015. Thank you, Mr. Vasquez for your wisdom, help and words of advice.  It worked out well for me!  Rest in peace. 

Manuel was one of two counselors that guided me through my counseling practicum at South San High School in 1975.  I worked with him as a counselor for many years.  He was one of the finest people I got to know in my career in the South San District.  He was one of the hardest working and dedicated professionals I ever worked with and gave his all to his students.  He was highly respected and admired by faculty, students, and the community.  May he Rest In Peace.

My Great - Uncle Manuel Vasquez always had a sweet smile, a kind word, a nice wave be it  hello or bye. He always took the time to acknowledge and care for everyone. Be it at his home when we would visit or at the high school were I attended and were he worked. The Lord has a new angel in His mist.

Manuel leaves his memory to his siblings, Elisa C. Vasquez, Maria Luisa V. Perez and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and students that he has influenced throughout the years.






He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Enrique Vasquez, Jesus Malacara, Ramon Vasquez, Oscar Vasquez, Eddie Vasquez, Bertha Vasquez, Otila Menchaca and Estella V. De La Vega.
