Manuel Vargas, 87, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2012. Manuel was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, on November 11, 1924. He met his beloved wife, Amparo Ruiz, in Monterrey. They were married on June 17, 1944, and were blessed with 60 years of marriage. Manuel was preceded in death by his wife, Amparo. He is survived by his daughter, Ofelia Davila and husband Hector, son, Luis M. Vargas and wife Anna; grandchildren, Robert Davila and wife Michele, Patricia Davila and husband Gregorio Flores; great-grandchildren, Joshua Davila, Olivia Davila, Arianna Flores, Catarina Flores and Juliana Flores. Manual is also survived by four sisters, one brother, and numerous nephews and nieces. Manny worked as an Insurance Broker for over 35 years at Southern Life, Prudential, and MetLife, and retired from MetLife in 1985 to dedicate himself to his two favorite passions, hunting and fishing. Manuel was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all he met. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. The family wishes to extend its profound gratitude to the staff at Mystic Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for their compassionate care and dedication. The family especially wants to thank the dedicated Certified Nursing Assistants who took such loving care of our father during the past four years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice. Visitation will be at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou Drive on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 beginning at 6:00 P.M. and a rosary at 7:00 P.M. that same evening. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 3, 2012 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church with interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery # 2.
