Manuel H. Rodriguez passed away peacefully on August 17, 2022 surrounded by his sister Gloria and brother-in-law Robert Cruz. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 22, 1942 to Manuel Louis and Francisca Rodriguez. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Alice Garcia. He is survived by his sister Gloria (Robert) Cruz and brother Raul (Roy) Rodriguez, nephews: Joey (Tiffany) Rodriguez, Johnny (Laurie) Rodriguez and Jensen Rodriguez, nieces: Yvette (Hector) Villasenor, Frances (Anthony) Longoria, Jessica Garcia and Loretta (Julian) Alcorta; great nephews Frankie, Patrick, Zack and Ben Rodriguez, Hector Soto IIII, Jesiah De Lo Santos and great nieces; Judionn Garcia and Ranye De Los Santos.
Manuel resided at 110 Marjorie Drive since 1950. At the age of 10 years, his father passed away and he became the head of the household at an early age. He attended grade school at Collins Garden and then attended Burbank Junior and Senior High School and graduated in 1961. During high school year, he worked as a butcher at a local grocery store. Manuel joined the US Air Force in 1961 for four years and was stationed in New York during the Cuban Crisis where he met his long time friend Raymond Johnson. After being discharged from the service, he enrolled at San Antonio College majoring in civil engineering. In 1973, he applied for the U.S. Postal Service and was hired on December 26, 1973 as a Postal Clerk and retired with 30 years of service.
He was an intelligent and honest man who lived his life as a minimalist. He was very humble and kind-hearted. He enjoyed reading history books specifically regarding the Greek and Roman civilizations. He kept up-to-date on the world news and politics by watching the news channels and researching the internet. He enjoyed watching history and Sci-Fi movies, gardening, arts/crafts, baking Christmas cookies/fudge, attending family gatherings, tending to his cats and watching his favorite sports team the Dallas Cowboys. Manuel loved to travel to New York to visit the Johnson family and enjoyed traveling by train. During his retirement, he would spend time visiting family, going to the senior center, movie theater and to the library.
In closing, we will always cherish the moments we all spent together and we will always miss you. May you Rest In Peace.
