It's been a year now since you've gone to a better place.  I can't begin to tell you how lonely I've been since you've been gone.  I guess the old saying that you never miss someone until they are gone and believe me, I miss you so much.  There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you.  I know that you are in a better place and you are no longer suffering or in pain.  And It's so selfish of me to wish that you were here with me, but I feel that I could tell you anything and you wouldn't judge me but except me for who I am .  I see and talk to Charlie a lot and you would be so proud of your son.  You raised a great and caring man.  You should see the house now, as he was fixing it up, he would always say “Lass do you think Mama would like this.”  I can't help but think that if I had been here for you, things might have been a little different.  Can you ever forgive me for not being here for you as you have always been for me?  I'm so sorry.  Just know that I will always love you and I can't wait until we meet again.

Wow, I am lost for words! I am the niece of the late Mamie E. Underwood today is July 21, 2012 just browsing, family means so much please embrace when its gone its hard!  This is the first time that I have laid eyes on whom I knew as a 6 year old child growing up in Brewton Al as Auntie Boo-Boo, so little memories, not sure of the year I remember auntie leaving for the service in her sweet voice said I Love You all and be good, never knowning I would never lay eyes on her again until today in the above Obituary photo! I am now 46, reason unknown, only God knows. I spoke to her sometime it was always warm loving & short I learned over the years to just respect and I did. Simply a blessing to read the relaytionships Aunt Boo-Boo had with so many people all over the world and how helpful she was, its funny because I to share some of the gifts that my Auntie had I guess its in the genealogy & lineage of the family we come from. I'm so greatful to have had a special Aunt who touched the lives of many. The Generosity & sincere Love is what God has given to us as a family & oh how thankful I am to God for the Love he has give us as a family, my grandmother would often say "Be Kind & Generous" so Auntie did listen to Ma'minnie. A woman of great strength, personal courage and a very warm and caring heart. "Her bark was worse than her bite".  Ms. Underwood will be missed, and she made a lasting impression on those who were lucky enough to know her, work with her  or be taught by her. And while we lost a wonderful individual, heaven has gained a superior angel.  God bless your family in this time of sorrow.

Trying to find the words that describe how I feel right now is difficult to do. (and of course, if they werent Englishly correct, you would make sure they were) Many of us have sought your guidance and advice over the years for various reasons, and, unless you were grading :-), you gave us your undivided attention. You mentored us through life and our jobs as Deltas. Your wisdom was always well thought out and unbiased. One of your last words of advice to me was, "the jury is still out on that one, but maybe its not so bad". And never did you EVER not end a conversation without saying you loved me...it meant and still means so much to have such a sincere friend who loved the way you did. You always asked about Kaitlan as if she was your own, not like Scootie of course...lol!...heck you were a part of her life for like her whole life so far, what an incredible woman you showed her to be. Thank you for loving your job so much and giving to all of us so much! Thank you for your teaching and showing all of us that bettering ourselves and achieving goals is a true strength.

I will truly miss her... She was always there to answer any question I had and always gave the BEST advice.  I truly will miss her and all that she is and has done for this program!

Itonly seem like yesterday that we had started kindergarten and later graduated from high school.  My heart has so many fun joyouss memories of you and our friendship.  May God sorround your family with peace, love and understanding.  My friend as we would say at the end of our days of playing as children,  "Happy Trails to You My Friend".

Ms Underwood you will truly be missed.  I will always remember our early mornings, late nights and weekends fighting with LXR.  My prayers go out to your family and friends during this time.

Mrs. Underwood, I never got a chance to thank you for listening to a couple of crazy kids and placing us in the same duty station for phase II. We have now been happily married for 10 years, and I like to think that you gave us that chance. Thank you for your years of service, dedication and generosity. You will be missed.

Ms Underwood was viewed as the mother of 91D/68D's because of her care and instruction.  She will be sorely missed.  May God bless and keep her family through this difficult time.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of a fellow soldier and O.R. Tech instructor.  Maime was always there to teach me how to be both.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ms. Underwood's family.  Mere words are not enough to describe how many lives she touched throughout the years.  She will be truly missed.

Will be missed dearly, she was a great Leady/Soldier and Civilian employee, during my time as the 264th Battalion Command Sergeant Major, Ms Underwood made my job very easy. For that I will also be thankful.

I first met Mamie in 1980 as her student in the 91D, Operating Room Specialist Course.  She was always kind to me and so friendly. Later in the 90's we worked together at the school house and had fun training new OR Techs for the Army, until I retired in 1991.   The one thing that was a constant at the school house was you.  You were the true inspiration for all the soldiers you helped trained and for those who had the honor to work with you. During all those years, Mamie was always true to who she was in being honest and giving advise to anyone who asked her.  She had a big heart and everyone loved her kindness. 
Letty, Melissa and I will miss you and we know you are with the Lord. Rest in peace. We love you.

Mamie was a great friend and mentor.  I will never forget to time and effort you spent with me and my family.  We shared so much, including birthdays.  She will always be missed.

I feel honored to have worked with you for the short time I did. No matter how many times we disagreed you never lost your temper and you always showed me the "error" of my ways. Thank you for always having the Soldiers best interests at heart. 

You always asked "When are you bringing Sydney back so we can visit?", and every time she came back you always made time and space for her at your desk. Thank you for being that wonderful person. 

Every time someone spoke of the Delta School House your name was ALWAYS mentioned and it never failed to solicit a smile from the Soldiers who knew you.

I am deeply saddened by your passing and wish that I could have visited with you one more time. The world will truly be a lesser place without you in it.

Rest in Paradise Ms Underwood you have had a great impact not only in my life but many before and after me. You will be truly missed, thank you for you dedication and hard work. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers

I am a better person and an NCO for knowing you. Words will never express the love and respect Claudia and I have for you.  I miss how every time we spoke you asked 'how's my boy' referring to my son Taylor. Keep a chair warm for me and tell JC I said hi.  Love you Mamie!

Mamie, only you would know how heavy my heart is at this moment. I will miss you battle, my memories of our times together will be forever on my mind. You were one of a kind. I first met SSG Mamie Underwood in 1981 when she arrived as an instructor for the 91D program. We soldiered together, had great laughs playing jokes on the staff but most importantly trained the future surgical technologists for our beloved Army. Mamie was a good friend over the years and I will solely miss her. Peace and comfort to her family. God bless.

Ms. Underwood, I often tell people that you are the reason I have my husband now. A student in your 68 Delta class, was having difficulty where I was living back in 2000 and you made it a point for me to be able to stay in school and graduate and come back in the military full time and helped me get stationed where I was, where I met my husband now. I will always be thankful for your caring heart and the love and concern you had for my best interest and my family. With love and Respect, I would come to continue to communicate with you down through the years. You will be missed but you are walking with Jesus now, and nothing would make you want to come back. God Bless your family during this time of grieving. But as she would probably say " don't cry for me when I am gone, just live life and love all people, for I am in a better place".
