Our beautiful mother, Magdalena Gallegos Salazar, was called home to be with the Lord on November 12, 2019 at the age of 92. She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Epifanio Salazar, Sr.; infant son, Abel Salazar and great grandson, Austin DeLaCruz.
Magdalena was born on March 9, 1927 in Gonzales, Texas to Faustino Gallegos and Julia Uresté.
Our family was abundantly blessed with Magdalena as a wife and mother. In a world of givers and takers, she was a “giver.” She freely gave her love, her talents and supported and donated to many charities of all causes. She was a woman of great faith and never doubted when facing impossible challenges.
She was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Not only had she memorized all family member's birth dates but she also acknowledged their special day by sending cards or a small gift without expecting anything in return.
She was a loyal friend and cultivated many lifelong relationships. She enjoyed the fellowship of being an active member of VFW Post 9186 and the Alamo Silver Wings Ladies Auxiliary. She was a proud American and cherished all who served to protect this country.
She had various pastimes, but her favorite things were reading and gardening. She loved digging in the dirt and watching her beautiful plants and flowers grow. She was one of the San Antonio Spurs and Texas A&M Aggie’s most loyal fans. She made certain she was home in time to watch the games on TV.
Mom left a solid imprint on us, her children, to follow. We will miss her but we rejoice that she is now enjoying her rightful place in Heaven.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Gloria (William) Quintanilla, Janie (Andres) Cisneros, Esther (Reggie) Garza, Linda (Willie) Guzmán and Epifanio (Cyndi) Salazar, Jr.
Grandchildren: Carlos (Lise) DeLeon, Patty (Jackson) Fisher, Melissa (Cliff) Roberson, Sandra (Keith) Fleming, Stephanie Montes, Michael Salazar, Matthew Salazar, Marissa Salazar.
Great grandchildren: Alyssa Fisher, Aidan and Alexandra Montes, Ray Fleming, Mia Roberson.
She also leaves behind many beloved Salazar family members, nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends. Special thanks and gratitude to her wonderful companions and assistants Raquel Najera, Liberia Ramirez, and Zoila Viera.
