Mae Zamzow Mylius went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 25, 2018. She was born on October 25, 1924 in Cibolo, Texas, grew up in Schertz and graduated from high school in 1942 in a class of eight students. After graduation she worked at Randolph Air Force Base until 1948 when she married Maurice Farrington Mylius and moved to Houston. Mae worked as a secretary and office manager and Maurice was an engineer. She enjoyed bowling and traveled to tournaments around the state with her team, and especially enjoyed a national tournament in New Orleans. Her family and friends fondly remember the “M & M Nut Hut,” a weekend and vacation home in Kemah on Galveston Bay, where they enjoyed good times and great food. After the “Nut Hut” Mae and Maurice built a home on Clear Lake and enjoyed fishing, shrimping and catching and eating blue crabs on the pier. In 1990, they moved back to Schertz to be closer to family. They enjoyed touring the United States in their RV while visiting old friends across the country and were members of the Tumbleweed Sam’s RV Club. Mae was a charter member of the Oak Forest Baptist Church in Houston and joined the First Baptist Church of Schertz on moving back. She also was involved in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Schertz Fire Department.
Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Farrington Mylius on July 3, 2001; father and mother, Max and Hulda Schultze Zamzow; brother, Edwin and his wife, Mildred Vordenbaum Zamzow; sister, Laura and her husband, Herbert Seiler; sister, Ella and her husband, James Legg; sister, Nadine and her husband, Hugo Reicherzer; and niece, Peggy and her husband, Edward Frazer.
Mae is survived by nieces and nephews, Patricia Nothstine, Universal City; Gary Reicherzer, Houston; Kenneth Reicherzer, Houston; Janice Ulbrich, Schertz; James Legg, Austin; Anna Legg, San Antonio; and Mildred Dekerlegand , San Antonio and numerous other great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 30, 2018 at 11:30AM at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Don Jeffreys officiating. Interment will follow at Mission Burial Park South. Visitation will precede the funeral service from 10:30AM to 11:30AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Schertz, 600 Aero St, Schertz, TX 78154.
