Luisa Cantu, born August 5, 1954 in Elsa, Texas, passed away on April 4, 2020 at the age of 65. She is preceded in death by her father, Daniel Rodriguez and by her sister, Elizabeth Rodriguez. Luisa is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Fred E. Cantu Jr.; children, Joel Salinas, Regina Lemons (Marc), Freddie Cantu III, Aaron Cantu, Kevin Cantu; mother, Maria Luisa Sanchez; brother, Ramiro Rodriguez (Jacqueline); grandchildren, Joel Isaiah Salinas, Ashley Nicole Salinas, Catalina Salinas, Macaela Lemons, Micah Lemons; great grandchildren, Laila Hernandez, Adonis Hernandez, Roaric Salinas.
Luisa is the author of Wow, My Little Bitty Baby (October 10, 2015), Mom, Can I have My Long Hair Back (November 2016), and Dancing with the Night (December 2016). She was a member of Texas Authors Inc. and of Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Early Childhood Education and she accomplished 23 years as an early childhood educator in Abilene, Texas public schools. Luisa was a retired military wife who moved to San Antonio, Texas and continued to teach for IDEA public schools.
Luisa devoted her time to her family. She was a dedicated daughter, a loving wife, a devoted mother, a caring sister, and an amazing grandmother.
Family visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Thursday, April 16, 2020 from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm, with a funeral service to be held at 2:00 pm at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. A private interment will take place on Friday, April 17, 2020 from 4:45 pm to 5:45 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
