Dear friends and family, on a beautiful spring day, our beloved mother, Lucille Herbold Krenz, peacefully passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Born March 20, 1932 in Guadalupe County, Texas, Lucille was one of the ten children of Henry and Hedwig Herbold. Lucille was strengthened throughout her life by the mutual love and support of her five sisters and four brothers. It was at Elm Creek School, a one room rural schoolhouse, that she met the love of her life, Calvin Krenz. There remains some debate as to when they actually met. Lucille often teased that Calvin noticed her a long time before she noticed him. Nonetheless, their bond of love in marriage lasted for almost sixty-five years with Lucille telling her nurses in her final moments of Calvin's beautiful eyes. Lucille's mission in life was to love God and to love others. Whether it was friends or family or just someone in need, Lucille made sure that God's love was evident in her every word and action. While in the hospital for the last time, one of Lucille's nurses wrote these words after caring for Lucille "I was touched by the beauty of her prayer. Her secret prayers were full of grace. Her words were overflowing thanks….As I listened, I felt like I was collecting gems, wisdom within the simplicity of her faith and submission to God." Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hedwig Herbold; three brothers, Roland, Marvin and John Herbold; her brothers-in-law, Ernst Kleinschmidt, Pete Schievelbein and John Whitwell; and her sister-in-law, Ruth Herbold. She is survived by her sisters, Nola Kleinschmidt, Lorene Schievelbein, Stella Illhardt, Lydia Whitwell and Hazel Kutac; her brother Leroy; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobbie Jean Herbold, Helen Herbold, Goldie Herbold, Carl Illhardt and Kenneth Kutac; her three sons and their spouses, Michael and his wife Martha of San Antonio, Rick and his wife Annette of San Antonio and Steve and his wife Paulette of Nashville, Tennessee. Lucille's grandchildren affectionately remember their grandmother as "Granny". Katie Krenz, Andy and Melissa Krenz, Ken and Robin Krenz Grover, Patrick Steck and Kristin Krenz, Kelsey Krenz, David Krenz, Daniel Krenz and Timothy Krenz. The family would especially like to thank Dr. David Marks and Dr. John Gresham for the loving care of our beloved mother. Their amazing grace will always be remembered.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 1:30 pm Friday, April 8 at Concordia Lutheran Church in San Antonio with Pastors Zach McIntosh and Dave McKnight officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 9 at San Geronimo Cemetery in Seguin, Texas.
