Louise Ward Goss passed away July 17, 2013. She was born Louise Ward on August 15, 1916 in Leesville, (Gonzales County) TX. She was predeceased by parents Alvie and Edith Ward, Son Tom Goss, Sister Frances Ward Goss and Brother Winston Ward. Louise is survived by her husband of 71 years, Leroy Goss; sons: Bill Goss and Bob Goss and wife Paula and daughter-in-law Roxy Goss, 8 Grandchildren: Amy Koudelka, Jenna Vaughan, Jason Goss, Jon Goss, Beth Goss, Jared Goss, Derek Goss, Katherine Greene; 12 Great grandchildren; Niece Peggy Prather who was like a daughter to her; and Nephews Dick Goss and Glenn Goss.
Louise attended Southwestern University and began a teaching career which was interrupted by marriage and children. She helped win World War II along with her Army pilot husband. She was a very supportive mother of 3 sons: PTA president, scout den mother, baseball team mother and much more. Louise later graduated from Trinity University and resumed teaching in SAISD, retiring from Madison Elementary in 1978. She was an active member of Woodlawn Methodist Church, later University United Methodist, participating in a great many of the church’s activities and outreaches. She was also a talented artist, leaving paintings highly valued by her children and grandchildren. Louise also enjoyed fishing at the coast and golfing. She loved bridge and belonged to a number of clubs.
Louise leaves behind a legacy of family and friends who loved and admired her and will be missed by many.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 23 from 6-8PM at Sunset North Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Wednesday, July 24 at 10AM at University United Methodist Church with a reception to immediately follow. A graveside committal service will commence at 1PM at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Highway.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to University United Methodist Church.
