Lorraine “Raine” Roe Leonard went home to the Lord on Friday, December 17, 2021. She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on June 23, 1933, to Dr. Joseph L. Roe and Lorraine Philbin Roe. Following the death of both parents, she was raised by her uncle, Robert Emmett Philbin. In 1950, she graduated from Mount St. Mary Academy.
In 1951, she married the love of her life, William “Bill” Leonard, and together they had five children. In 1970, they moved to San Antonio, where she dedicated her life to supporting her family and serving others. Raine was a tireless and selfless volunteer for the Girl Scouts of America, Boy Scouts of America, and as a CCD teacher at St. Matthew Catholic Church.
She was an adored wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Raine could have an engaging conversation with a single person, or be the life of the party in a crowded room. She loved to travel the world, but was content on holding a grandchild’s hand during a walk around the cul-de-sac.
Raine is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and children, Lori Leonard Portis and William Leonard, Jr., siblings Patricia Plummer and Joseph L. Roe. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Leonard; Lynne Walker and husband, Gene; Leah Randle and husband, Jimmy; daughter-in-law, Debbie Leonard; brother-in-law, Richard Leonard; and her eleven grandchildren, PJ, Bubba, Jacob, Stoney, Kristen, Luke, Clayton, Lizzie, Chase, Kelsey, and Candace and twenty great grandchildren.
She was patient and kind, but had an indomitable spirit that persevered through life’s challenges. She was known for her optimism, compassion, and grace, and her memory will live on in her friends, neighbors, and family.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 22nd at 10:00 a.m.
The Graveside Service will be at Sunset Memorial Park on Wednesday, December 22nd at 3:30 p.m.
