Lorraine Louise Lease, affectionately known as Rainey, passed away on August 2, 2012, in the early morning hours of a beautiful moon. She was born in Mitchell, South Dakota, to Maurice and Mabel Carlson on February 9, 1922. She grew up on their farm with 2 brothers and 4 sisters. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1940. She married John C. Lease in 1952, and they remained married and in love until his death in 2001. Lorraine was also preceded in death by her son Douglas Lease in 2011. She is survived by her sister, Karen Carlson; daughters Barbara Peterson (and husband Dale) and Janet Lease; step-son John A. Lease (and wife Nancy); grandchildren Shelby McMurrey (and husband Bryan), Kristin Peterson and Travis Peterson; and great-grandchildren Blakeley and Braedon McMurrey. She will be greatly missed by her wonderful caretaker, Olga Zamarripa, whose loving care and expertise kept Rainey going in her final years. Lorraine was employed by Dermatological Products of Texas for 21 years and retired as a purchasing agent in 1989. She was a member of the Purchasing Management Association and held the offices of secretary, treasurer, and vice-president. She always loved challenging her mind from an early age and was her 8th grade class valedictorian, and expert speller, and a poet. As an adult she became an excellent Bridge player and a sharp crossword puzzle enthusiast. Lorraine will be remembered for her intelligence, creativity, and most of all, her sense of humor. Even at age 90, she kept people laughing with her witty remarks. We thank her friends Jan Wolf and Erla Nauman from Shepherd King for their cheerful visits and spiritual support. We also thank Prudence from Heartland Hospice, whose kindness was a blessing. Most of all, we thank God for allowing us to know this beautiful blue-eyed woman, for giving her a long, laughter-filled life, and for giving her His loving peace and freedom when she needed it most.
All services will be at Sunset North Funeral Home at Stone Oak. The visitation will be Thursday, August 9, 2012 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. A Service of Remembrance will be Friday, August 10, 2012 at 10:00AM with Rev. Kristine F. Hill officiating. She will be laid to rest at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:30AM. A reception will follow at Shepherd King Lutheran Church, 303 W. Ramsey Rd. Memorial contributions may be made to Shepherd King Lutheran Church and to Ronald McDonald House.
