Lois was born July 7, 1928, in Clay Center, Kansas, to the Rev. Otto W. Meyer and Loide nee Ambrosius.
She attended elementary and high schools in Herington and Garden City, Kansas. Lois attended Lutheran St. John's College in Winfield, Kansas for two years, receiving an associate teaching degree.
She met her future husband, Whitfield McMillan at St. John's in 1948. She then taught first grade for five years in St. Louis at a Lutheran Christian Day School. Lois and Whit McMillan were married on June 6, 1953, in St. Louis, after his graduation from Concordia Seminary.
Together, they served their country, each in her/his own way, as mother and military chaplain in the US Air Force for five years, and after a break in service they returned to military service, this time in the US Army for 25 more years.
Their marriage was blessed with four children, Deborah Lois Ledbetter, Anne Katherine Everett, Paul McMillan and John McMillan.
They served in England, Germany twice, Vietnam and Korea, as well as a number of stateside bases, including Ft. Sam Houston twice. After her husband's retirement from military service in 1987, they made their home in San Antonio with their church membership in Concordia Lutheran Church.
Lois was blessed with seven grandchildren, Julie, Jennifer and Jessica Everett, Katherine and Michael Ledbetter, Benjamin and Alexandra McMillan, and two great-grandsons, James and John O'leary, all of whom brought great joy to her.
