Lloyd Carroll Spruce Jr.

Lloyd, known by family and friends as Butch, was born in Corpus Christi, TX, to Lloyd Carroll Spruce, Sr., and Minnie Garza Spruce on November 2nd, 1947. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Advertising Design from the University of North Texas. He and his loving wife Chris Abraham were married for 56 years.

Butch was a founding member of Powerhouse Graphics (now FINELINE Graphics), a university sponsored graphic design studio originally located in Denton, Texas, and was an Army veteran serving in Washington, DC.

Butch’s exceptional talent as an artist and illustrator became known early in life, so he knew exactly what direction his career would take him. He worked as a Designer and Artist, first in Dallas designing marketing materials for a variety of clients including 7-Eleven, breweries Guinness and Labatt, and the Dallas Mavericks. He spent the last 17 years of his career at The University of Texas School of Nursing in Austin as Media Coordinator, responsible for all creative media that included logos, research posters and web design displays. While at The University, Butch received the SONstar Staff Excellence award and most deservedly the University-wide Staff Excellence award.

Butch’s love for wife Chris and daughter Kim was total and unwavering. To them, he was a source of eternal pride and protection.

Butch is preceded in death by his parents, his loving daughter, Kimberly Spruce Weaver and his sister, Linda Ann Holcomb. His wife Chris suddenly passed away two weeks after Butch and will also be profoundly missed. A tribute to Chris is forthcoming. He is survived by former son-in-law, Aaron Weaver, and numerous cousins.

The family wishes to extend our sincere appreciation for the services of the nurses, doctors and staff at St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital, San Antonio.
