Lisa Ann Linhart came into this world just days after Hurricane Carla hit the South Texas coast. Her beloved late parents, Alois Lawrence, “A.L.” and Georgia Kellner Linhart, chose the name “Lisa,” even though her Grandmother Louise thought “Carla” would be a better fit. The excitement of her first days set the tone for the rest of her life, one lived with great gusto and passion, a deep faith, formidable bravery, boundless enthusiasm, and a sincere curiosity and love for people.
She grew up in Karnes City, Texas, where she was equally comfortable in jeans and boots, with a shotgun by her side as she was in a ball gown at a formal event. She loved her small town upbringing, surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, and her close knit family. Voted “Most Friendly Senior Girl” in her class of 1980, Lisa was editor of the yearbook, where she discovered her love of photography, a hobby that stayed with her throughout her lifetime, never without her camera at the ready.
She graduated from Southwest Texas State University (SWT) where she majored in Journalism and English. After graduation, she moved to San Antonio to start her career and it was on a night out with friends in 1988 when she met the love of her life, John Frederick Weissler. He was Catholic, a proud Aggie with a great smile, and he loved to dance. They were married on September 30, 1989 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Alamo Heights and so began their beautiful walk through life together, hand in hand each step of the way — travel adventures together, hosting many friends and family in their home for festive parties, strolling through their beloved Monte Vista neighborhood, working in the yard together, deepening their strong Catholic faith at their church Our Lady of Grace, and always serving others.
They had two sons, Jakob Frederick and Luke Linhart. She often told her boys they were her life’s greatest treasure. While she juggled a successful, award-winning career in pharmaceuticals first at Parke-Davis and then at GlaxoSmithKline, her boys always came first. She was an avid volunteer at their schools, Keystone and Central Catholic, she never missed their sports games, or the many trips to their family ranch. Together, their family of four visited just about every historic site in the U.S., spent summers hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, and explored places like Germany, Austria, Canada, France, Italy, Hungary, and Argentina.
Retirement in 2019 was everything that Lisa hoped it would be — more travel, more time in her favorite place on earth, Estes Park, Colorado, where she got to renovate a historic cabin and build her dream mountain home on Sunset Rock, and more volunteering for the many nonprofits she supported. She found joy and delight…in everything.
Lisa never met a stranger. She was open, inclusive, and warm, making friends and connections with everyone who crossed her path. She took care of elderly neighbors, she rooted for people, she championed everyone around her. She loved nothing more than giving of her time, her many talents, and her resources to others. Lisa knew how blessed she was and felt it was important to share blessings with others, including strangers.
Cancer was not in her plans, but like she did with everything in her life, she embraced where she was and she found ways to encourage and support other people who were going through treatment at MD Anderson and the Rotary House. Despite everything that she went through in her four-and-a-half year fight against cancer, Lisa never lost hope. She always thought tomorrow would be a better day and she clung to her favorite verse, Psalm 46:10, “Be Still and know that I am God.”
She was surrounded by her family as her valiant battle with breast cancer ended on March 31, 2025. She and her family want to express their gratitude to her physicians — Dr. Amy Lang and Dr. Gladys Rodriguez at the START Center, Dr. Vicente Valero at MD Anderson, and her oncologist Dr. Chelsea Gawryletz.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her brother, Lawrence Michael, and her father-in-law A.C. Weissler. She is survived by the love of her life, her best friend, and husband of 35 years, John, her son Jakob, his wife Emilie, and their children Judd and Molly, her son Luke and his wife Elizabeth, her mother-in-law, Patricia Weissler, her three siblings, Debra Linhart, Kathy Turner, Randy Linhart, and many inlaws, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews who will miss her dearly and will strive to live like she did. Lisa changed us all.
A recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on Friday, April 4th at 3:00pm. The funeral will take place at Our Lady of Grace on Saturday, April 5th at 10:00am.
Due to the solemnity of the Lenten season, the Church will not be accepting flowers. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lisa’s honor can be made to Mission Road Ministries, Thrive Well Cancer Foundation, and Central Catholic High School.
