Leroy J. Jonas

He was born on the family dairy on February 9, 1929 in Leon Valley, Texas. Leroy attended Leon Valley Elementary and graduated from Fox Tech High School in San Antonio. He worked the dairy from an early age, served in the Texas National Guard, worked for the Bexar County Highway Department before being employed at the Lone Star Brewery from which he retired after 37 years. Starting in 1991 he enjoyed his retirement years playing cards at the Helotes Country Club with his friends, spoiling his cows, dogs and grandchildren. Leroy was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where he was an usher. He loved old westerns, playing softball and cussing “them Dallas Cowboys”. He is survived by his children Bonnie Williams, Richard Jonas and wife Phyllis and Mollie Jonas; the mother of his children Betty Lou Jonas; brothers James, Earl , and Clyde Jonas; his sister Ann Pruitt; his grandchildren Mark Williams, Brandy Rodriguez and Kelly Jonas. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Hattie Jonas, his son Paul and his grandson Ryan. Visitation will begin at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 159 Camino Santa Maria, 78228 at 6:00 pm on Friday, August 31, 2012 followed by a rosary at 7:00 pm.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Saturday, September 1, 2012 also at Holy Rosary with interment to follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery in Helotes. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Building Fund in his honor.
