Leroy Calvin Alex, Jr. passed away from this world to join his Heavenly Father on Monday, November 21, 2016. Leroy grew up in San Antonio, Texas with a large, loving family. As a child, Leroy often visited his grandparents, Alfred and Adaline Alex, who lived in College Station, Texas. After attending countless Texas A&M football games with his family, Leroy developed a deep and proud passion for the Aggies. His love for all things Texas A&M was well known and cherished by his family and friends.
As a young man, Leroy chose to proudly serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. He received the rank of Corporal and specialized as a Rifleman. He selflessly fought in the Vietnam War until he sustained injuries. His bravery, service, and sacrifice earned him multiple merits, including: 2 Purple Heart Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal for Valor, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Navy Unit Citation, and Presidential Unit Citation. He also received a personalized letter in 1969 from President Richard Nixon, who recognized Leroy as an outstanding example of loyalty and love of country.
Leroy was a man of both principle and passion. He was a devoted Roman Catholic. He was a proud member of Freemasonry, and served as Chaplin for Anchor Lodge No. 424. He enjoyed hunting and camping and maintained a deep adoration for history. He was a hard worker, who received further awards for his excellent work ethic in other occupations such as sales and marketing. Leroy was a noble and generous man who made many contributions to various charities during his lifetime.
Leroy is survived by his three children: Jennifer, Aaron, and Summer Alex; his father: Leroy Calvin Alex, Sr.; his siblings: Judy Dietrich, Valerie Arreguin, Anthony Alex, Sherry Sublousky, Arthur Alex, and Roger Alex; his two grandchildren: Andrew and Jonathan Sayavan; and many nieces and nephews. Leroy was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor Alex.
Leroy Calvin Alex, Jr. will be remembered as a supportive father, proud grandfather, American hero, true gentleman, and faithful Aggie.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to any of the following organizations would honor Leroy’s wishes: Purple Heart Foundation, Disabled American Veterans Charity, or Boys Town.
