Leo was born in Brady, Texas, to Manuel Mireles and Natalia Gutierrez. From the very beginning, Leo's life was centered around faith, family and friends. He married Virginia, and together they shared 58 beautiful years of marriage.
Leo and Virginia made their home in Fort Worth, Texas, where they raised two sons and built a life. Leo worked for many years at Bell Helicopter, where he took great pride in his work before retiring. Every time a helicopter flew overhead, Leo would proudly point it out saying with a smile, “I helped build that.” Late in life, Leo and Virginia moved to San Antonio to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
To know Leo was to love him. He had a rare gift: he never met a stranger. Whether you were family, a neighbor, or someone he’d just met, Leo welcomed you with a warm smile and a kind heart. He was the life of the party wherever he went, often bringing laughter and joy to any room he entered. His favorite meal was barbecue, and he never turned down a good plate. And when there wasn’t a party or family gathering to attend, you could often find him sitting contentedly in his truck, listening to Tejano music with a peaceful smile.
On Sundays, he was always sharply dressed—unless it was football season, when he proudly donned the blue and silver of his beloved Dallas Cowboys. He was a true fan of "America’s Team", Texas Rangers, and Texas he rarely missed games.
Leo loved sports, especially when he could cheer on his sons as they played growing up—and later, his grandchildren as they followed in their father’s footsteps. These moments of pride were among his greatest blessings.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Natalia Mireles; his brothers, Henry, Richard, Alfonso, Manuel, and Raymond; and his sisters, Berta, Jesusitta, Aramandia, Lupe, and Natalie.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Virginia Mireles of San Antonio; his sons, Paul Mireles (Gina) of San Antonio, and Tommy Mireles (Melissa) of Austin; his beloved sisters, Minerva Gonzales of Fredericksburg, and Ninfa Deanda and her companion Tony Flores of Irving.
Leo leaves behind a loving legacy in his grandchildren: Brookelynn (Javier) Cardenas, Reed (Sierra) Mireles, Christa Mireles, and Austin Mireles, all of San Antonio; and Mackenzie Mireles and Levi Mireles of Austin. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Ezra Mireles and Carson Cardenas of San Antonio.
Leo will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his generous heart, and the joy he brought to those around him. His spirit lives on in the stories we share, the laughter we echo, and the love that binds us all.
