Leona began her career as a nurse, dedicating her life to caring for others. She later transitioned to a role as a trust officer at the National Bank of Commerce (NBC), where she continued to serve her community with grace and integrity. Her professional accomplishments were matched by her personal passions. Leona had a deep love for gardening and baking, particularly creating an array of delicious cookies that were enjoyed by many.
A gifted seamstress, Leona used her talents to support her two sons after becoming a young widow. She sewed countless wedding dresses and bridal party attire for local brides, as well as cheerleader outfits for high school teams, demonstrating both her skill and her commitment to her community. After retirement, Leona devoted much of her time to volunteer work with the San Antonio Rodeo, Fiesta San Antonio, and the Greek Orthodox Church festivals, where she made lasting contributions to the community she loved. In her sunset years Leona spent much of her time with her grand-daughter and great grandchildren and she enjoyed watching them grow.
Leona was predeceased by her parents, Eddie V. Brandt and Velma Ellsworth; her husband, Roland J. Doeppenschmidt; her son, Larry W. Doeppenschmidt; and her siblings, Oland Brandt, Ophelia B. Knowlton, Evelyn B. Kubena, and Thelma Jean B. Harrison.
She is survived by her son, Dennis L. Doeppenschmidt; her daughters-in-law Mary Lou Doeppenschmidt and Tammy Owrey; her grandchildren, Christopher J. Doeppenschmidt, Andrew B. Doeppenschmidt (Amy), and Michelle L. Doeppenschmidt (Shaun Vandenbrook); as well as her great-grandchildren, Brayden Lee, Summer Leigh, Isaiah Lee, and Jesse James; and a brother, Lester Brandt.
