In the gentle embrace of family, Laura Montoya passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024, leaving behind a legacy that radiates with love, devotion, and unwavering faith. Born April 23, 1936, in Falls City, Texas, Laura was the first daughter and first born of Francisco and Martha Medrano. She attended Hot Wells Middle School and lived in San Antonio most of her life. Laura worked as a Supervisor at Chromalloy American Turbine Support Division, the first female supervisor, for years before retirement, a testament to her resilience and pioneering spirit.
In 1954 Laura and Jesus Montoya married, forming an incredible bond that transcended time and trials. Together they embarked on a remarkable journey marked by 70 years of commitment and profound love. This union blossomed into a beautiful family, where Laura’s role as a devoted mother and matriarch flourished with a larger-than-life family.
Guided by her deep-rooted faith Laura dedicated her life to serving The Lord through various ministries and acts of kindness. She was a parishioner of St. Gerard’s Catholic Church, an A.C.T.S leader, leader at the Catholic Center for Charismatic Renewal, member of the Cathedral Choir, served in the Prison Ministry, an active member of The Crusillos, an RCIA teacher, Eucharistic Minister, served in Blanket for Sick Babies Ministry, and participated and led many prayer groups, for over 40 years.
Beyond her ministry and service she loved her family unconditionally. She also loved, no matter what, the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs. She enjoyed playing Loteria, Bingo and poker at family gatherings. She treasured cooking, and her meals were second to none which brought warmth to the hearts of all who were lucky enough to partake. She loved serving the family and celebrating holidays. She loved traveling, especially enjoying Hawaii, and her dream came true when she visited the Holy Land and Rome. She directed the annual Montoya Tamalera for over 40 years, ensuring her family can make and enjoy hundreds and hundreds of tamales for each Christmas holiday. Her vibrant spirit kept all her family and friends on their toes, and her genuine compassion touched the lives of all she encountered.
Laura is survived by her loving husband Jesus Montoya Jr., her daughter Anna Aguirre (Felix), and her five sons, Jesus III (Lydia), Christopher, John (Donna), Phillip (Roberta), and Anthony. She also loved as her own the Martinez children, Pete, Antonio and Michelle.
Laura has 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed, and leaves behind a tapestry of memories woven with love, strength and boundless compassion.
Rest peacefully dear Laura, your journey on earth may have ended, but your legacy of love and light will endure for generations to come. As we gather to celebrate your remarkable life, may we find solace in the cherished memories and knowing you are now in the landscape of His Paradise as one of His flock.
