Larry Wayne Weldon Jr. was born to Brenda and Larry Wayne Weldon Sr. in San Francisco, California on May 7, 1964. He passed away October 12, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 47. At the age of 11, Larry’s family moved to San Jose, California where he began excelling in sports. After graduating high school, he received a football scholarship to attend San Jose State University in 1981, where he played defensive back for the Spartans. In addition to playing football, he was also a member of the Spartans Track and Field team where he was a two-time triple-jump conference champion. In college, Larry met many wonderful people who positively influenced him, helping him to stay focused and on the right path. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Economics.
Larry married his college sweetheart, Vicki Moore, who put up with his mess for twenty-five years. From their union they have a son and a daughter, both attending college. Larry had ambitions for a career in the NFL, however, when this aspiration did not pan out Larry made a career in the wholesale industry for over twenty-three years. However, he found his true passion in books. He became an avid reader after picking up Terry McMillan’s novel “Mama” in the late eighties.
Larry loved to read. He read an average of two books a week for over twenty years from a variety of authors. His favorite authors were Walter Mosley, John Grisham and Eric Jerome Dickey. One of Larry’s good friends suggested that since he enjoyed books so much he should give writing a try.
In 2007, he logged onto a website called Black Voices and began to pursue his interest in writing. Though Larry was not the most technologically savvy guy, he began entertaining an audience of folks with his writing on the internet. He wrote short sexy romantic stories in a unique style which was all his own. He used his imagination, life experiences and creativity to create his stories. It was great improvisation and while some may have considered his style a break away from tradition, he was too stubborn and too old to change his methods but they worked for him.
In 2008, Larry Weldon Jr. had a novella published by Teardrops Publishing Company called “Tales from a Simple Mind”. He self-published his next two novels with Lulu Publishing, “Bay Area Firecracker” released in the summer of 2009, and "Her Time, His Story" released this past year. Larry was becoming a new voice on the contemporary scene of urban fiction. Larry said that for him writing was simply a process of emptying his mind of an array of cluttered thoughts that saturated his mind from the people and experiences that had touched his life over the years.
His stories were full of life, passion, humor, and drama. He definitely made his own rules and had his own niche when it came to his writing. Larry authored 7 books and characters were filled with passion, charisma and love. He is best known by his fans as a writer who conveys the complexities, joys and importance of love relationships.
Larry’s ultimate life’s mission was to instill the importance of education in his children and to take care of his family. His hobbies included listening to old R&B music, writing and collecting black art. He is most often quoted as saying, “It’s all good and stay up.”
Larry is survived by his wife of 25 years, Vicki Weldon, son, Chase Alexander, daughter, London Ashley, father Larry Sr., sister Rachael, and brother’s Patrick, Demetrius, Kenneth and Jeffrey. Larry was preceded in death by his mother Brenda, sister, Montiel and nephew Ryan.
