Kyung Ja Kittleson, age 85, quietly passed away on June 30, 2020 in her home in San Antonio, Texas. She was born in Miryang, Korea on October 2, 1934 on an apple farm in southern Korea. Kyung lived the kind of life we only see in movies. As a young child she was separated from her family and forced to flee to Seoul, Korea as communists invaded her family’s home and murdered her mother and father. Despite this tragedy, Kyung was able to find extended family in Seoul and made a new home for herself living and working for their local tea and restaurant business.
It was here that Kyung met and married her lifetime partner of 57 years, Glenn Dale Kittleson who was a young Army war hero stationed in Korea. Kyung, a shy, yet charming 20-something at this point, met Glenn at her family’s tea and restaurant business and according to Kyung, he returned many times for more “tea” before finally asking her out. The two were married in 1959, separated only by Glenn’s unfortunate death in 2016.
Kyung was a loving mother to her three beautiful children, son Lee Kittleson and wife Tracy, daughter Estella Catron and husband Glenn, and son John Kittleson, who sadly passed shortly after childbirth in 1964. Kyung is also survived by her remaining grandchildren, Travis, Tiffany, Michael, Stephen and wife Laura, Martin, Taylor and husband Phison, and Tanner and her three great grandchildren, Mackinzie, Jazen, and Sophie. Kyung was a loved and cherished mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be dearly missed, forever.
Please join us for her visitation which will be on Saturday, July 11th from 1-2 pm in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with the Funeral Service at 2:00 pm. She will be buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with her late husband. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please consider a donation to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org, a cause that Kyung supported.
