Katie Selma Reader went to be with the Lord, January 30, 2019 at the age of 98. She was the daughter of Arthur and Clementine Hierholzer. She is survived by her son, Darryl Reader (Jean) and daughter Kathy Peden (Michael); grandchildren Mark Reader (Lori), Jason Reader (Jen), Stephanie York (Brandon), Samantha Knecht (Jason) and Scott Peden (Lauren) and great grandchildren Griffin, Sydney, Katie, Davis, Carter, Jack and Charlie.
Born in Bracken, TX , Katie moved to Fashing when she was two years old where she grew up on a cotton farm. As a young adult, Katie became a beautician and moved to Kenedy, TX where she met her husband of 42 years, Quentin. She then moved to San Antonio and was employed by the Federal Reserve Bank. She lived for a short time in Harlingen during WWII, where she was employed as an airplane mechanic.
After the war, Katie lived life as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a lifelong Christian that lived out her faith. She was a charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and is currently a member of Windcrest UMC. Katie received the lifetime membership pin for WSCS currently known as United Methodist Women and served as circle chair for many years.
Katie was well known for her watercolor and oil paintings of roses and hill country bluebonnet scenes. She took great delight in giving pictures to her friends and donating others to her church’s fall festivals.. She was a member of the Windcrest Art League and Windcrest Women’s Club.
Katie loved to travel and spent many summer vacations in Colorado. She joined her daughter and family on many of their vacations. She was an also an avid Spurs and Dallas Cowboy fan.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 4 at Windcrest United Methodist Church at 10 am. Reception to follow.
