She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, and attended The University of Texas at Austin where she pursued a fine arts degree in sketching, painting, and sculpture.
A devout Catholic, Karen also worked as a nurse’s aide, and was a charter member of Saint John Neumann Catholic Church where she was an auxiliary member of the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, and participated in Bible study groups.
Karen enjoyed sketching, calligraphy, reading books, and discussing art as well as current events. She also enjoyed “Family Nights” hosted by John & Karen Bocquin where she could visit with friends and extended family.
Karen Bruce was preceded in passing by her father, Colonel Victor E. Bocquin, USAF (ret.) She was born in Winnipeg Canada while her father was serving joint duty with the RCAF. She is survived by her mother, Lorene C. Bocquin, and five siblings: Lieutenant-Colonel James Bocquin, USAF (ret.) & his wife Theresa Bocquin, Jean & Doug Gentile, John & Karen Bocquin, and Bruce Bocquin. While Karen will be sorely missed by her friends, family, nieces and nephews, she will be fondly remembered as a selfless, caring, and giving person who brought joy and happiness to others.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 6680 Crestway, 78239. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
