Juliette Malone Jenkins was born March 26, 1940 in Dallas, Texas. Julie was the daughter of Al and Olivette Malone – living in Dallas for the first 16 years of her life. Julie and her younger brother, Mark Alan Malone, shared much love and laughter, affectionately being “JuJu and MarMar.” Julie and her late husband, Doug Ferguson, had two children, David Wayne Ferguson (wife Mary) and Lauri Kay Ferguson Smith(former husband Rod).
Julie loved life and her family. She worked in several dress shops, jumpstarting her love for clothes and shopping. She loved spending time with her children and their friends. She was always the hostess – bringing family and friends together for neighborhood gatherings. Julie was constantly doing for others and caring for those she loved – helping others was what she found the most important.
Julie was blessed with four grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren: Jason Ferguson (wife Jen), and their children Audrey and Jack; Sandra Burton, and her children Adalyn and Bryce; Sam Smith; and Julie Smith. Julie loved to spoil her grandchildren. “Grammy Camp” was a week-long summer vacation at Julie’s house, spending 1-on-1 time with each grandchild. Together, they would shop, square dance,
play tennis, watch movies, and do many other fun activities that created life-long memories. Julie also enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews: Chris Martin; Erin Crowder (husband Bryan); Hillary Rucker (husband Logan); and Zachary Malone (wife Ashley).
In 1971, Julie moved to San Antonio, and it was there that she met the love of her life, Jack S. Jenkins. They met at Trinity Baptist Church and were married on December 18, 1975 – they enjoyed an incredibly beautiful marriage for almost 23 years. Jack, a retired Air Force Colonel, and Julie shared a love for travel, history, and fun. Julie valued her time with Jack’s three daughters and grandchildren: Martha Demers (husband Wilfred), and their son Sam Demers; Jane Jenkins (husband Bob Hovenden);
and Jill Jenkins, and her daughter Traci Pierce-Schaap (husband Jack). Julie was fun – her smile would light up any room and she was rarely seen without it. Julie loved her friends – she was always finding ways to spend time with the people closest to her. Julie loved tennis, hosting, and making all things pretty. She loved time outside on her deck and adored all the pets she had during her life. Julie loved to
play games – her favorite being Dominos. She would willingly play with anyone and everyone just to enjoy the game and the conversation. Julie loved the Lord – she was consistently finding ways to be the hands and feet of Christ throughout her life.
Julie’s family would like to express their gratitude to Vitas Hospice for the exceptional care and concern they all gave her.
A memorial service honoring the life of Julie Jenkins will be on Monday, March 18th at 3:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home.
