Juanita, or Janie as she was known to many, was born to Anastacio and Guadalupe Curiel on August 18, 1949, in Meadow, Texas. She graduated from nursing school in 1978 and was a Registered Nurse until she retired in 2012.
She married Arturo Lee Perez on November 17, 1969, and they were married for 50 years. She is survived by her husband Arturo, her two children, Juan Jose Perez (and Ana Laura Perez) and Angelica Perez Barrera (and Gustavo Barrera Jr.), two grandsons, Alejandro Jose and Andres Joaquin, and three granddaughters, Elena Natalie, Catalina Teresa, and Guadalupe Lucia. She is also survived by her siblings Matilde, Jose, Ruben, and Silvia. She was preceded in death by her loving parents Anastacio and Guadalupe and her beloved brothers Eliseo and Roberto.
Juanita was a dedicated and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, nurse, friend, and most importantly, servant of God. As a strong, loving matriarch, she led her family with kindness and grace, always striving to bring whatever aid or comfort to those she loved. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of service in health care and in the Church.
A Rosary will be held on April 10, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Mary Claret Catholic Church, followed by the funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. A private burial will take place at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery on April 12. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Janie’s Mission, the foundation started by her children that is dedicated to education and helping those in economic need.
