Juana “Janie” Salas, 93, entered the kingdom of heaven on February 17, 2018. Janie was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and served others through her work as a registered nurse. As an adult, she immigrated to the United States to provide the best life for her family. Her work in agriculture and manufacturing jobs demonstrated an unparalleled work ethic. Janie was proud to become a United States citizen on February 23, 1983. She lived her life as a strong and independent woman who provided for others through fellowship, friendship, and food. She enjoyed spending time with her beloved dog, Duke; was an avid gardener, and made beautiful pieces of pottery. Janie frequently attended Catholic services and prayed often to our heavenly Father. She will be forever missed and loved by her family. During this difficult time, we are comforted in knowing Janie was happy to go home to the house of the Lord.
Janie is preceded in death by her parents Juana Urrutia vda de Salas and Miguel Salas Hernandez, brothers Arnulfo a.k.a. Andres, Cleofas, Cornelio, Lazaro a.k.a. Francisco and Marcello. She is survived by her daughters Beatriz Esquivel Reyes and husband Arnoldo, Maria Berumen-Morales and husband Pedro, Gloria Berumen Saldana and husband Rodolfo. Her life was enriched by her grandchildren Carlos Reyes and wife Pati, Armida Reyes Perez and husband Raymond, Martha Reyes Hawkins and husband William, Adam Hernandez and wife Serina, Jesse Hernandez, Christopher Hernandez, Balvin John Garcia and wife Alexandra, Venita Garcia Schultz and husband Shawn, and Gaiton Garcia and wife Katheron. Janie was blessed by great-grandchildren Abraham, Alexcis, Elias, Giulia, Ivan, Jesse, Madelyn, Mariela, Mia, Mirabel, Samantha, and great-great grandchild Jaxson.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria del Angel Roy Akers, 515 N. Main Avenue, San Antonio, Texas, 78205 on Friday, March 2, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, March 3, 2018, the Mass of the Resurrection begins at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 210 Saint Ann, San Antonio, Texas 78201, with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, Texas 78218.
