Juan A. Velez was born in Monterrey, Mexico on March 29, 1935, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2012 at the age of 76. He suffered a brain stem stroke on February 12 and died peacefully the following day surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 50 years, Esperanza Velez and their infant daughter, Ruth. He is survived by his children: Areli Maldonado and her husband, Leon; Sarah Gondesen and her husband Mark; Juan Velez, Jr. and his wife, Ana. His beloved and cherished grandchildren, Sarah Velez (15 years old), Alexa Velez (11 years old) and Aaron Gondesen (13 years old). In his youth, our father was a competitive cyclist in Mexico. In his later years, he enjoyed watching boxing and spoiling his grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers. Private Interment Services will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you perform a random act of kindness.
