Joyce Vernette Price, 92, passed away at home following a brief illness on February 5, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas after a lifetime of kindness, generosity and love. She was born January 24, 1931 in Galveston, Texas. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, William Chester Price Jr.; her parents, Mary Elizabeth Sturrock and Ernest Vories Wolfram; her stepfather, Allan Laird Raysor; and a son-in-law, Marvin Harris. She is survived by her children, William Garrett “Gary” Price (wife Gale) and MaryEliza “Karen” Sturrock; her grandchildren, Derek, Angela, Ryan, Clark, Kevin and Julianne; and her great-grandchildren, Ada, William, Bet, Thomas, Olivia and Sophia.
Her warmth, kindness, gentle spirit, abiding faith and abundant generosity have shaped many lives for the better.
Joyce lived a long, full and vibrant life, including traveling across Europe and Latin America. A resident of San Antonio for her entire adult life, Joyce lit up when the community celebrated her 90th birthday by throwing a parade during the COVID pandemic in 2021.
She had a remarkable ability to make the people around her feel seen, loved and appreciated for exactly who they are. Whether it was welcoming visitors into her well-kept home, inviting family to come for frequent visits, or baking Christmas goodies for dozens of close friends in her church and community, Joyce had an extraordinary way of showing her love in meaningful ways.
She had a generous and kind heart, and she would avail herself to help others at every opportunity. She loved serving other people, including her many friends in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held a deep and steadfast faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ, and she turned that faith into loving action on a daily basis.
Most of all, Joyce loved her family and her husband of more than 70 years. At the end of her life, she looked forward with confidence and happiness to being reunited with W.C., the man with whom she shared a lifetime of laughter and tenderness.
