Joyce Lynn Hester

Joyce Lynn Hester, age 80, born Nov. 8, 1942, in Freeport, Texas, went to be with the Lord at 11 a.m. Sunday. She played French horn with the high school band and graduated from Odem High School in 1961. She attended one year at Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas, majoring music.

After trying several jobs, became the first female barber in Corpus Christi, Texas.

After she and her husband, Bill, were married the family moved to Germany, were she became involved in the Aglow Christian ministry. She sometimes served on the board of Aglow and travel around Germany to Aglow meetings. She and Bill and their son, Brady, loved to travel and vacationed in many countries in Europe. When they moved to Pennsylvania and then Texas, she continued her work with Aglow. She would often be invited speak and sing praise songs at Aglow meetings.

In Texas she became involved in a Christian ministry that visited Texas prisons, where she sang praise songs. Joyce and her husband have been members of Cornerstone Church, San Antonio, Tx, for many years. She was a member of the choir and was sometimes asked to sing solos with the choir. She helped with Christmas pageant by doing the wigs and beards. She also enjoyed writing praise and worship songs. The U.S. Army Band once asked her to write a march for the band. The band played it for her and gave her the recording.

Two of her grandchildren graduated from Cornerstone Christian School. She often spoke and sang praise songs at weekly school chapel. Her great-grandson is now in K5 at the school.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Bill Hester, one son Brady (Lynn) Hester of San Antonio; two granddaughters Nichole (Jacob) Cortina of San Antonio, Kayla (Derrick) Baresel of Kansas City MO; one great grandson Kolten Cortinas of San Antonio; three siblings, Jay (Barbara Mersinger ) Dearman of Waco; Derlene (Ken) Williams of San Antonio; Roy (Claudia) Dearman of San Antonio and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her Parents, Joyce was preceded in death by a nephew and niece.
