He was a great man to serve under. I was with him in 4th TAC Fighter Wing, Seymour Johnoson AFB, Goldsboro NC. I did many of his breifings and he always thanked me for my work.

I married into the Moore family in 1990 when I wed General Moore's only granddaughter. A 3-star grandfather-in-law and a 2-star father-in-law...what a tough act to follow! A true patriarch of the Moore clan, he welcomed me into the family with opened arms and always made me feel like a valued addition. I enjoyed sitting down with him every chance I got just to hear his real life history-making stories. I was so proud when he presided over my pin-on ceremony to Colonel. It made the event even more memorable. What a truly great-great man! He will be missed!

General Moore was my husband's squadron commander at Clark AB when the Japanese attacked, and Gilly was the third and last pilot to get airborne that day. Gllly and I were privileged to have known General Moore. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

General Moore was a wonderful person who was a large part of my fathers life. I enjoyed spending time with him with my father and the rest of the survivers when I had the honor to attend reuions for the 21 Pursuit Squadron. He was a great man and we will miss him dearly. Don and Genie Newbold

Dear Mrs. Moore: I have know your dear husdband for well over 40 years. He was my boss as a One Star, Two Star and Three Star. When I made Colonel in 1965 in Vietnam, he informed me I had better not put my Eagles on before I reported 
to his office at 10:00 AM so he could do the job.. Needless to say, I was quite honored. I still have the picture of that event. Of all the Generals I worked for in my 31 yerars in the Army Air Corp and the USAF, he was by far the most concerning, respected and loved. To know General Joe Moore was to love him. I would have flown on his wing to hell and back. That's the most respect one fighter pilot can show for another fighter pilot. I am deeply saddened by his departure from this world. I will miss the times we sat together at Daedalian functions and discussed the good old days of yester year. He was my inspiration of how to be a good man. There are many people I would like to be like, but he was my favorite. There was not one inch of meaness in his whole body. I know without a doubt where he is now and I wonder what aircraft God issued to him to have a mock dog fight with "Little Joe?" My prayer to the Almighty is when it is my time that He will let my join that dog fight. God love you and help you with your sorrow. Colin Chauret

I am General Moore's nephew. I have wonderful family memories of time I spent with Uncle Joe from my youth that I am priviledged to have experienced and known. To Uncle Joe we will miss you and salute you for a life well lived.

It was an Honor to be your Aussie Mate and to met you in Washington DC in April 2006. I will miss you and near forget your stories you told me over the years. Gen Moore you will always be my Hero

Uncle Harold was my great uncle. My grandmother, Pearl Gault, was Virl Moore's sister. I have fond memories of Uncle Harold, and I am so sorry for your loss.

General Moore was my boss in Vietnam and one of the the finest General Officers that I ever served under. He was a true LEADER who inspired his men and provided an example to be followed during a military career. God Bless you General, you have truly slipped the bonds of earth.

I served under Colonel Joe Moore Jr. at Mytle Beach AFB when I first became acquainted with Lt. Gen Joe Moore Sr. through the United State Power Squadron when I was the Squadron Commander. We taught boating safty courses to the public. Like General Moore, I also retired and lived temporarly in Mytle Beach, SC. We became good friends and we both later moved to the San Antonio area where we kept in touch. The last two years, we have run into each other at the commisary and BX on Randolph AFB, where we discussed our retired lives. We both flew some of the world's fastest aircraft and we enjoyed comparing our lifetime experiences.

We feel honored and blessed to have known such a kind and gentle man. His love of family and country serves as an inspiration to us all.

In loving memory of our beloved Uncle Joe.

Gen. Moore was a personal hero of mine. His actions in the Philippines amid the Japanese assault of December 8, 1941, are by themselves enough to make him a hero to almost anyone. He served the nation and the Air Force at many levels and will be missed, but never forgotten. I expect to have an opportunity to write about him in Air Force Times newspaper and would like to hear from anyone who would care to share memories.

The most modest, kind, respectful, and 
honorable person I have ever known. It was easy to love him as a brother-in-law. I have been greatly blessed by this relationship. Thank God for such a man.
