A true Southern gentleman, Joe was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, moved as a youngster to Charleston, South Carolina and, after graduation from high school, enlisted in the Air Force. After two overseas tours, he was discharged in Austin, Texas, where he later earned an engineering degree from the University of Texas. Joe worked at City Public Service Board in San Antonio, and later at Kelly AFB. He enjoyed playing the banjo, square dancing, clogging and videotaping. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois, in 1980 and their son, Timothy, in 1989.
Joe is survived by his wife, Kay, children in their blended family Suzanne (George), Matthew (Christie), Lynann Moses (Mike), Dan Yarbrough, Dave Yarbrough, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and friends too numerous to count. A gathering will be held October 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home with military honors at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park. The family requests no flowers and any donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
