Joseph Maurice “Marvelous” Etheridge at the age of 90 year old, went to be with the Lord on August 2, 2021. Joe was born on April 18, 1931 in Dothan Alabama to Carey B. Etheridge and Doris Lauran Chumney, his parents. He met his future bride, Sandra French, in high school. They were married on December 5, 1950 and celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Family
Joe was a devoted husband and family man, as was clear in his devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Sandra “Sandy” and his son Van Etheridge of Washington D.C. and Van’s children Morgan Bierly and Reagan Werner aka “The Angels”. His daughter, Marsha Reindl and son-in-law, Henry of San Antonio and her sons Eric and Brent Ridderikhoff. He cherished his 4 great grandchildren as he lovingly admired their pictures and said, “Aren’t they pretty!” He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Reginald Wayne Etheridge.
Service
He and his wife were active members of the First Baptist Church in downtown San Antonio since 1962, where they served as greeters and Joe served as a Life Deacon.
Career
He worked in a newspaper in the printing shop when they were first married. Worked in the grocery store industry as a butcher. He and his wife moved to San Antonio in 1962 to continue his career in selling for various meat packing companies. In 1975, he began a career in Real Estate with his friend Walt Cornelius. 3 years later, Joe launched his own commercial real estate sales and development company. In 1982, his children joined him in the business. He retired from commercial real estate in 2011.
