He was born in San Antonio, Texas, to parents Margarito and Josefina (Flores) Amaya, on October 6, 1939. Joseph graduated from Brackenridge High School and joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves in 1956. He was a machinist Tool and Die maker for Turbine Support for many years and more recently for Golden Aluminum where he retired.
Joseph was a lifelong AFL-CIO union member and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for many years. He enjoyed working out at his brother’s fitness center, playing pool and drinking a cold beer with family and friends. Joseph was known to many for his sense of humor and quick wit and admired for his work ethic and his willingness to help family and friends in need. He will be dearly missed.
Joseph is survived in death by his brother Jesus Miguel Amaya and his 6 children; sons Joe Arthur Amaya Jr, Mark Andrew Amaya and wife Darlene, Joe John Amaya, and James Anthony Amaya and wife Lorraine, daughters Laura Chaltron, Dolores Adela Carrizales and husband Paul; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Theresa Brown, Estella Amaya Frutchey, brother Manuel Amaya and grandson Vincent Amaya.
