Jose was born to Sabas and Maria Garcia on May 27th, 1931, in Hebbronville, TX. He married his loving wife, Hortencia, and they eventually moved to San Antonio, TX where they would call home. Jose was drafted into the Army, in 1951, and served as a half-track mechanic. He was sent overseas, to France, in support of the Korean War, and would eventually get out of the Army in 1953. He enjoyed reading the newspaper, the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his brothers, Pedro Garcia, Santana Garcia, Armando Garcia, and sister, Maria J Garcia, his children Abigail Garcia, Agar Lozano, Eli Lozano, his niece, Maria Cervantes, and countless cousins, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Hortencia Garcia, and their two infant sons, his parents, Sabas and Maria Garcia, his brother, Israel Garcia, and his sisters, Maria Sabitas Davila, Beatriz G. Cantu, and Lydia Lozano.
Visitation for Jose will be held on Thursday, April 1st, beginning at 5 pm for immediate family, and from 6 pm to 8 pm for remaining family and friends at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home (1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78218). There is a 25 person limit for the visitation room and social distance measures will be observed. The funeral service will be held on April 2nd at 3 pm in the chapel at Sunset Memorial (where there is a 50 person capacity) with the graveside service and burial immediately following.
The U.S. Army Honor guard will be rendering military honors and the Patriot Guard Riders of San Antonio will be providing escort and rendering honors for Jose.
Pallbearers will be Joe Vargas, Andy Vargas, Juan Lozano, Juan Hernandez, Michael Garza, and Isaac Valadez.
