Joe was born in San Antonio, Texas to Jose Maria Camarillo and Gloria Mendoza Camarillo on October 6, 1955. He attended Lanier High School, the Pride of the West Side of San Antonio. He worked at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base for several years before moving on to Alamo Heights Independent School District. He worked throughout the District where spent 18 years retiring as the Custodial Supervisor at Alamo Heights High School. In his younger years, Joe coach the Rattler’s baseball team having played at Baseball Fields such as Castillo’s Baseball Field in Von Ormy, Texas, Colt 45 Baseball Field, L & T Baseball Field and Guerrero’s in Floresville, Texas. An avid sports fans, you could always find him watching just about any sport. However, those that knew him couldn’t deny his all-time favorite football team and love for the Dallas Cowboys. During football season, he could be found near a TV watching the football game, being their loudest fan. Off season, he could be found sporting the latest Dallas Cowboy gear. No matter the time of year, he was always representing the Blue and Silver.
Joe is preceded in death by his wife Elida Gutierrez Camarillo; Children John G., Jaime B. and Jesse Adame; Parents Jose Maria Camarillo and Gloria Mendoza Calderon; Brothers Andrew Mendoza Ramos and Juan Lorenzo Calderon and Nephew Andrew Perez Ramos, Jr.
Joe is survived by daughter Jessica A. Herrera; Sisters Rosalinda Camarillo Zavala, Teresa Johnson (Emerson), Audelia and Olivia Calderon; Brothers Celso, Agustin, Raul, Jose and Isidro Calderon; Sister-in-Law Leticia P. Ramos; Nephews Angel Ozzy Zavala, Joseph Rene Lopez, Juan Lorenzo Calderon, Jr.; Nieces Andrea Ramos and Janiel Nicole Calderon; Numerous Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many Friends.
Pallbearers will be Christian Joe Adame, Chastin Lee Adame, Caleb Valerio Herrera, Joseph Ryan Lopez Jr., Jonathan Riley Lopez and John David Adame, Jr.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, Texas 78238 with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. Family and friends are encouraged to wear Dallas Cowboy attire for the Visitation.
A funeral procession will depart Sunset Northwest Funeral Home at 9:15 am on Friday, August 9, 2024 for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 am at Divine Providence Catholic Church, 5667 Old Pearsall Road, San Antonio, Texas 78242. Burial will follow at Wild Flower Cemetery, 10392 Kriewald Road, San Antonio, Texas 78245.
The family wishes to extend their most sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of DaVita Southwest San Antonio Dialysis Center for their care over the last 14 years, Harbor Valley Health and Rehab and Baptist Medical Center for their care in his final days.
