Jorge R. Johnson, “George,” entered rest peacefully in his sleep June 18, 2012 at the age of 91. He was born to Miguel and Concepcion Johnson in Laredo, Texas on April 23, 1921. His father was a Professor of Music which led him to start his own Tropical band in Laredo, Texas. He later married his first wife Dora Perez and moved his family to San Antonio, in 1947. After moving to San Antonio, Don Jorge started El Conjunto de Los Paisanos in 1962, whose music is still heard today. Mr. Johnson worked for Kelly Air Force Base retiring after 20 years of service. He then retired in 1991 as a school bus driver for Northeast ISD after 18 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; sons, Gabriel and Raul Johnson; and a grandson, Danny Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Gloria V. Johnson; sons, Juan (Yoli), Carlos (Yolanda) and Mike (Diana) Johnson; daughters, Dora J. Quiroga (Roy), Rose Johnson (Esther Lopez) and Norma J. Luna (David); daughter-in-law, Helen Johnson; stepsons, Johnny, David, Robert, Danny and Willie Pineda; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Hipolito Johnson (Amalia). He will be greatly missed by all. The family will receive friends at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. A funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 11:30 a.m., Friday, June 22, 2012 to celebrate a 12:00 Noon Mass at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 804 Ruiz (78207). Interment will follow in San Jose Burial Park.
