As a young teenager, Jorge had a very contagious smile. I later saw Him as a man and was so surprised at the accomplished man working at UMC Hospital in Lubbock. I was so proud to see him after so many years, I know how proud my friend Gloria and his Family are of Jorge/George...Its been a few days since I heard this very sad news I still think and would love to hear from the Family.. What can be said about Jorge that has not been expressed in every page? His smile...Jorge was the smile on his Mom's face. His laughter...Jorge was the laughter in Cyndi's heart.

So sorry to hear about the loss of a fellow nurse here.  I didn't get to know him well but have heard nothing but wonderful things about him.  So sorry for this trajic loss.  His family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Jorge was in our lives for such a short time.  I feel short changed because I did not get the time to really, really know Jorge as others were blessed to.  My prayers for strength and fortitude to continue to all his family and friends.

Although we never met, we share the same passion for running and as healthcare providers.  My prayers go to your family, friends and fellow runners.  Rest in peace.

To the Fernandez Family, just wanted to tell all of you that I am so very sorry to hear that Jorge has passed. I know it's been many years since we last saw you guys but still we remember all of you! I remember Jorge being a funny boy. Please know that you are all in my thoughts & prayers!!!

you were the greatest influence on me and cousin cindy and i will miss you dearly.You taught me to never give up on a dream and to reach my goals. I got promoted to a SSgt and made the unarmed varsity team at my school. You will be remembered by us. My little cousin will think of you cause you gave her that blue cake,made cooked good food that day,and she loved you. When my mom told me what happened at the marathon i couldn't believe that you passed away. Now i remember you not by your smile but by how big your heart and that you were a awesome guy to hang out with. You talked to me about with military branch was the best to enlist. I cant believe your in heaven now with our Lord. We will see you again.

I'm still in shock to know that you've been taken from us so suddenly. Us on the unit will greatly miss the laughs you brought us time and time again. You were an excellent nurse on the unit and working next to you was always certain to bring a good time. You and I were the only people on the unit that knew anything about Texas Tech and life in good ole west Texas, Lubbock, TX. You'll greatly be missed and my condolences go to out to your family and all those who knew you intimately.

Jorge, Im so sorry this is where our paths have split for now, I just hope I can live my life to the standard you lived yours. You've set a bar in life that only great men can achieve, and one day I will be there to thank you for showing me how to fulfill my life. I know your family is proud of everything you achieved in life, but as you look down on me, and i know you will, just know I will carry you with me wherever I go.

I also had the pleasure of growing up with Jorge. We attended Jr. High school in Lubbock,TX. Jorge was always a couragous and loving person. His give all attitude shined through in competition and his smile made him stand out in a crowd. 

Jorge, thank you for your service Sgt! I always knew you would accomplish great things. I am blessed to have known you and we will miss you friend!

My first week in Transplant ICU, I had the pleasure of meeting Jorge. This was about 3 months ago. He volunteered to help us out because we were undermanned. We hit it off right away and I knew he was one of a kind. I always enjoyed his presence as well as everyone else here in Transplant. I will miss him very much and I am truly blessed to have been able to meet him. My condolences to his fiancee and family.

i met jorge at university hospital he was my uncle nurse and a darn good one. He always kept me and my family at ease during our devastating moments. it's sad to hear that a wonderful smart man was taken. my condolence goes out to the fernandez family. god bless!

SSgt Fernandez was an exceptional NCO.  He served this great nation honorably and was THE example for other airman and NCOs to follow.  To the Fernandez family, I'm truly sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of growing up with Jorge. We attended Wison Jr. High school together in Lubbock,TX. I more recently worked closely with him at University Medical Center while he attended nursing school. Jorge always had a smile on his face and an infectious attitude. Jorge walked into work everyday with the biggest smile and that's what ill remember most, that infectious smile.  He was a caring nurse and a great guy.  My thoughts.and prayers are with him and his family.

As one of Jorge's nursing instructor's, I would like to offer my condolences to his family and friends. Jorge always had a smile on his face and was a great advocate for his patients. I had the pleasure of giving Jorge a tour of our new Maria F. Hall SimLife Center this summer and was very proud of him for continuing his education in medicine.  The nursing profession has losted a great nursing leader.  May God bless and extend His comforting grace and mercy in your time of sorrow.
