John Thomas Olfers, 74, passed away June 4, 2018 at McAllen Heart Hospital. A native of San Antonio, John had lived in McAllen for twenty years with his wife and children before moving back to San Antonio in 1991. He truly loved fishing at the coast and woodworking/crafting in his backyard. John was a master craftsman, building everything from bird houses to rustic, wooden furniture. He also had a passion for barbecuing his favorite meats: steak, ribs, sausage, and chicken fajitas. He did it all. John was an avid Texas A&M and Spurs fan, too!
John was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin (Benno) and Eleanor Olfers.
John is survived by his wife of forty-five years Cyndi Gavenda Olfers, his son Tony Olfers, daughter Tara Harris (Steven), as well as Tim and Tracey Olfers, his son and daughter from a previous marriage, plus a brother Pete Olfers (Jeryl) and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Memorial services are to be held at Sunset Funeral Home 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 11:00 A.M.
