I knew him as Johnny Martin, football player.  I remember him walking down the hallway with Janice Arnold (cheerleader) by his side. We were all classmates of 68.  My condolence to his family and friends.    jo

Forgive my irreverence, but seeing this picture of Johnny taken later in life makes me realize that Johnny was the real Big Lebowski all along. Who knew?! Certainly, Johnny didn't live like the Big Lebowski, but you must admit, the “dudes” look a lot alike. Another similarity is the fact that Johnny was a bigger-than-life character with a personality and soul to match. He was loved by friends and family and will be remembered for all our days. I hope you don't mind, but I located a picture of "the gang" taken on September 3, 1974 -- Midge's birthday. You can tell that it is 1974 because everyone's hair is really cool and very 70s-like. . .and, we're drinking Budweiser -- NOT Bud Light, but honest-to-God high-octane, high-calorie Budweiser (the way beer was meant to be). Midge is in the forefront, Johnny's brother Ricky is next to her enjoying his refreshing beverage, Kathy is all smiles (this is the way I always remember Kathy), Johnny's dipping into the chile con queso; and that's Dave Gegg next to him. I am behind the shutter of a very high-tech Kodak camera -- the kind you had to lick the bulb before you put it in the socket (to get the best connection). These are the gifts that we all gave to one another, these are the memories that never die, this is the way we will always be. . .to one another. Because to friends and family, we never grow old and we never really leave. We are here for one another always. Much love to you, Kathy, and to the Martin & Woolsey Families.

He was such a remarkable man, dedicated to his family, always affable and ready to lend a helping hand, and ever brave throughout his illness.  Together, you and he created a wonderful team. I graduated with Johnny from South San. I regret that I just found out of his passing but offer my prayers to you, his family. Even though we lost touch over the years, you were a great guy and will be missed.
