John Charles ”Johnny” Frausto, age 56, passed into eternal life on August 19, 2013. Johnny with dogged determination fought cancer for four years with one purpose always, to be here long as he could with his beloved wife, Belinda (Lopez) Frausto and daughters Angela and Liana. He is now reunited in heaven with his parents, Hector and Angela Frausto, and brother in law Eddie Zuniga. He will be greatly missed by his two brothers, Robert “Corky” Frausto of Albuquerque, NM and partner Phil Zinser, Hector “Skip” Frausto, of San Antonio, sisters in law, Maggie Zuniga, Rita Silva and Melissa Lopez, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and his “sisters in life” Norma Gonzalez and Therese Huntzinger. An immeasurable number of friends, colleagues, fellow St. Anthony de Padua parishioners and clients join Johnny’s family in mourning his passing with great sorrow.
He was born on June 29, 1957 in Eagle Pass, Texas. Johnny, the youngest of three boys tragically lost both his parents, at young ages. He moved to San Antonio in 1968 to be raised by his loving Tio Tommy and Tia Tacha. He attended St. Ann’s School, followed by three years at Central Catholic High School, graduating in 1975 from Edison High School.
Johnny had many he had many different interests and ambitions before earning his degree from UTSA and later his law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2001. His foremost ambition was to follow in his father’s footsteps to become a lawyer and advocate for those truly in need. Johnny spoke often of his admiration for his father who for 14 years until 1966 was the elected County Attorney in Maverick County. So it was with great pride that Johnny during his career had similar opportunities, such as when he was appointed “special prosecutor” for Maverick County. Most of Johnny’s legal career was as a solo practitioner in Bexar County, primarily in the area of criminal defense. His “family” at the Bexar County Courthouse will remember Johnny as much for his sense of humor as his advocacy in the courtroom.
His “family” at St. Anthony de Padua was just as treasured. As a devout catholic and a long time member of the parish it was a central focus in his life. He served as director and team leader in the A.C.T.S. community and at retreats. He volunteered his time to A.C.T.S. until his final days. He participated in the A.C.T.S. men’s choir.
His love of life was always abundantly clear to all who knew him. He was relied upon as a master raconteur and purveyor of whatever was needed to make you smile and laugh. Whether it was his Fiesta costumes, party antics, a new breakout dance or what “hat” he would don next, he was living La Vida Loca. Amidst all the joy he brought us, he we was truly a kind and gentle soul.
Above all the fun, Johnny was God’s example of a devoted husband, proud and loving father and dear friend. He fought his fight with courage and grace. He dedicated his final days to his and Belinda’s commitment to a quality education for their girls. Angela entered UTSA this week and Liana is at IWHS. In an effort to continue that dream it is asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Johnny Frausto c/o Norma Gonzales at 206 E. Locust SAT 78212. Please note on donation if you wish to designate “education” or A.C.T.S. as recipient of donation.
