

He graduated from Burbank High School and worked at Kelly AFB before joining the Air Force. Selected as a top performer in the Air Force, he pioneered the way in aviation logistics. He was selected to work on top secret projects, mentor others in the field and became an avid educator and advisor. Upon his return, he worked at Kelly AFB, earned his Bachelor's of Business at Our Lady of the Lake and raised his family.
With the support and encouragement of his wife he excelled in public speaking as a member of Toastmasters club and went on to tutor 4H clubs. Charismatic in all his endeavors he was a devoted member of various clubs, charities and local churches in San Antonio. He was an avid member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society for over 30 years at St. Paul's Catholic Church. His unparalleled generosity was evident through his many fund raisers, organized church events and countless hours of volunteer work in various churches. Joe was a member of the Optimist Club, a strong pro-life supporter and trophy chess and backgammon player. His passion for baking was passed on to his children and great-grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his wife of 46 years, Delfina; Daughters, Jodell, Lesa Barrera (David), Jobea (Charles Falcon); grandchildren, David Anthony Barrera (Briana), Christian, Mercedes, Roman and Moses; great-grandchildren, Kylee, Anthony and David Joe; brothers, Saul and Roger; and sisters Diana and Linda.
The family will greet friends on Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 5-7:00pm at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.
