Joe Louis McLeod was born in Summertown, Georgia on January 07, 1937 to Willie Sr. and Elizabeth McLeod. Joe was the youngest of their four children. He graduated from Wheatly High School and enlisted into the U.S. Army shortly after. He married Guadalupe Luna and from their union they had three children, son Kenneth, daughters Michele and Nancy McLeod. Joe served 22 years in the U.S. Army before retiring and then later retiring from Civil Service at Fort Sam Houston. He was a lifelong member of the Fort Sam Houston Chapel. Bowling was a passion of Joe’s. He belonged to several Bowling Leagues, in which he received many trophies and awards. He was a very private person, as well as a hardworking man with strong family values. Joe is and was the rock of his family and leaves a legacy of love and respect that will carry on forever.
Joe Louis McLeod was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth McLeod; father, Willie McLeod Sr.; brother, Walter Bennifield; sister, Jessie Mae Bennifield and brother, Willie McLeod Jr. He is survived by son, Kenneth McLeod; daughters, Michele and Nancy McLeod; grandchildren, Jennifer Gobert; Winston McLeod; Lionel Nettles; Pedro McLeod; Neaven McLeod; great grandchildren, Kiara Davis; Gabriel Gobert; Breelyn Gobert; Tatyana Godinez; Taylon Pichon; Ariah Nettles; Aubree Nettles and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 6-9:00 pm at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Service will be on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 9:30 am at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will follow at 11:15 am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
