Joe Guidry passed away Feb. 15, 2013 at the age of 95. He was born April 11, 1917 in Abbeville, Louisiana, one of eight children born to Hattie Fletcher and Leon Guidry. He served his country for 23 years as a Combat Medic, served in the Invasion of Normandy, France during World War II unaware at the time that his ancestry traced back to 1400's Normandy, France. He was helping to liberate his people, even speaking the same French dialect of that region of France. He also served in the Korean Conflict with a MASH unit. His second career was with the State as an employee at the State Chest hospital. He was preceded in death by daughter Priscilla Ann, infant son Kenneth, and Joe Jr. Also preceded in death by Wives, Gladys Marie Hafer, Jewell Smith, and Agnes Louise Ward; brothers, Frank, Jule, Milton, Clifford, Andrew; and sisters, Lillian and Nettie. He leaves a daughter , Cynthia Marie Goodwin, husband Thomas E. Goodwin. Step daughters, Fran Lane, Carol Gibson, husband Paul. Grandchildren, Wayne Magill Hickman, Charles Guidry Hickman, wife Beth, Joanna Marie Hickman, partner Misty Sizenbach, Step grandsons, Tommy Goodwin, Rusty Lane, Paul Gibson, Jr. Great grandchildren, Hayleigh Priscilla Bernhard, Hannah Marie Bernhard, Hunter James Hickman, Dylan James Hickman, and step grandchildren, Katie Goodwin, Kami Fassett, Erin Fassett, and Story Gibson, also numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 25, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, with full military honors.
