Joe G. Young, Sr.

Joe graduated from the Old Anderson High School and attended Sam Huston College in Austin, TX. He set aside his studies to serve our country in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge. He retired after working forty-five years at the San Antonio Country Club. Joe was a dedicated employee who took great pride in his work and appearance. He was a remarkable man with a big heart. Joe loved to read and cook. He was very knowledgeable about life issues and was devoted to his church, the St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles Young, Sr., and William Young. They will greet him in the next life.

He is survived by his daughter, Madline Jo Lee of Austin, TX; son, Joe G. Young, Jr.; two sisters, Addie Bell Mebane and Doris Elizabeth Walker of Houston, TX; stepdaughter, Diane Moore and husband Edward of San Antonio, TX; two brothers, Horace Young and wife Daisy of Houston, TX and Virgil E. Young, Sr. and wife Elray of Austin, TX; grandson, Jovon Render and wife Minerva (his exceptional caregivers) of San Antonio, TX; numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held the following morning, Thursday, May 20, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 623 E. Commerce, San Antonio, TX, at 9:00 a.m. A Committal Service will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach, San Antonio, TX, with Military Honors.
