Jo Beth Ward passed away peacefully on March 25, 2018, at the age of 97. She was born in San Antonio on December 29, 1920, to Al and Gladys Whiting. Jo graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1938. She resided in San Antonio or Cibolo all her life, except briefly during World War II.
Jo was preceded in death by her beloved son, Lt. Robert W. Miller Jr. (USMC – KIA), the father of her children, Robert W. Miller Sr., and her devoted husband, Hank Ward. She is survived by her sons Steve (Carrie) Miller, Greg Miller, and Jeff (Lori) Miller; her sisters Totsey (Everett) Caughey and Vee Ridgeway; and 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Jo will be sorely missed. She was a great mom, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. She was loving, selfless, and when needed, tough. Perhaps the personality that was most representative of her was Mary Tyler Moore as portrayed on her television show. Similarly, Jo was beautiful, competent and successful at work, funny, and displayed grace and kindness to others.
Our gratitude goes out to her primary caregivers, Linda and Jessica, and to Alamo Hospice.
