She was born in Enid, Oklahoma and graduated from Holmes High School in 1987. JoAnna earned a BA in elementary and early childhood education from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She married John Boag in 2003.
JoAnna was a kindergarten/pre-k teacher at Mary Michaels elementary and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students; although JoAnna had no children of her own, she loved her students as if they were her own. She retired from teaching in 2010. She was deeply loved by her family, friends and community; she will be missed.
JoAnna loved south Texas beaches and fishing out of Port Aransas with John. She was an avid Spurs fan and most of all she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
JoAnna is survived by her loving husband John, of San Antonio and parents, Sandy and James Williams formerly of San Antonio currently residing in Springfield, Ohio. JoAnna is survived by her mother-in law, Sandy Boag of San Antonio. She is also survived by two brothers: James Jr., of Fairbanks, Alaska; and John Matthew, of San Antonio; her grandfather, Harold Snyder of Springfield, Ohio; niece Sara and nephew Sean of Fairbanks, Alaska; and, sister in-law Melissa Boag of San Antonio.
JoAnna’s family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Methodist Hospital and to her providers, Dr. Walker and Dr. Andrews.
A viewing and rosary will be held at Sunset Northwest funeral home at 6321 Bandera Road on Friday, June 28th. The viewing will be from 5 to 9pm and the rosary service will start at 7pm.
Funeral and burial services will be in San Antonio on Saturday, June 29th. Funeral services will start at 10am at St. Anthony Mary Claret Catholic church, 6150 Roft Road. Funeral will proceed to Zion Lutheran Cemetery at 9944 Leslie Road immediately following the funeral service.
